Welcome

We are pleased to host the fifth Annual Conference on Experimental Sociology (ACES) in Madrid on August 30 – September 1, 2023.

The field of experimental sociology is growing rapidly. In 2023, the Annual Conference of Experimental Sociology reaches its fifth edition. The purpose of ACES is the presentation, exchange, and discussion of experimental research in Sociology and related fields. In previous ACES editions, the outline of Experimental Sociology, as well as core methodological principles were the central themes of discussion. In this five-year period, ACES has evolved into a full-fledged academic conference and it is now open to members of educational and scientific institutions around the world. It welcomes submissions on new substantive findings, replications of existing studies, as well as methodological or ethical discussions of doing experiments.

About

The first meeting of ACES took place in Vienna, Austria in 2018, and was organized by Bernhard Kittel. Klarita Gërxhani organized ACES 2019 at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence in 2019. Axel Franzen (University of Bern) and Andreas Diekmann (University of Leipzig and ETH Zurich) organized ACES 2021 at Monte Verita in Ascona, Switzerland. ACES 2022 was hosted at Utrecht University, The Netherlands, by Wojtek Przepiorka, Vincent Buskens and Rense Corten.

In 2020, ACES was planned to take place in Madrid, Spain, but had to be postponed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Global crises permitting, ACES 2023 will finally be in Madrid. The venue of the conference is the Residencia de Estudiantes, an historic building on the main campus of the Spanish National Research Council. The conference will take place from Wednesday August 30 to Friday September 1, 2023. The meeting will be organized by Luis Miller and Amalia Alvarez-Benjumea (Spanish National Research Council).
